Hi all you MARC map catalogers out there – I need your help!

I have a question about the way coordinates are described for a map I need to catalog (I’m revising the record that is in OCLC).  This is a little complicated, so please bear with me.  The bottom line is, I don’t understand the description of the coordinates given in the cataloging record, except in general terms.

Could you please take a look at OCLC record #1085374257 for High Atlas Morocco.

On this sheet there are two main maps, one of Morocco and one of the High Atlas mountains, one on each side of the sheet.

The map of Morocco (one of 2 main maps) shows North toward the upper right, so you are looking at Morocco on this sheet, with the Mediterranean seacoast sort of at the upper right.  In this way the entire country of Morocco fits on a wide sheet, with its west coast along the top. The north-south parallels are at a 45 degree angle to the orientation of the sheet.

There are coordinates printed on the map. Morocco as shown extends from about 13 degrees west to 1 degree east, and about 37 degrees north to 26 degrees north. This seems pretty clear to me.

On the other side of the sheet is the 2nd main map of High Atlas mountains, which also has very clear coordinates.

There are also numerous insets and ancillary maps; insets on the Morocco map and ancillary maps on the High Atlas side of the sheet.

  This cataloging record needs work!

So does anyone understand these descriptions?  I sure do not!  Also, these are only describing the Morocco map.

Should I replace these statements?  I don’t want to replace something that is correct, but I  don’t know how to interpret them, especially in a MARC environment.

Here is a brief explanation of G-polygons:  https://www.fgdc.gov/csdgmgraphical/ideninfo/sptldo/faq.htm

Thanks for any advice.
