Registration is now open for the 15th annual “Geoscience Librarianship 101” (GL101) professional development seminar, to be held in Phoenix, Arizona on Saturday, September 21.  The day-long event is free and open to all information professionals as well as students in library and information studies.  Librarians new to the geosciences and those already in the field who want a refresher are invited to participate.

GL101 will provide an overview of geoscience information; collection development and reference services in the geosciences; government publications; maps and geospatial information; and corporate/industry librarianship.  Participants are encouraged to bring their own questions and issues for discussion at the Q&A session following the structured presentations.

A team of five experienced geoscience librarians will conduct the seminar:  Amanda Bielskas (Columbia University), Stephanie Earls (Washington Geological Survey), Mary Ellen Vedas (Hess Technical Library), Emily Wild (Princeton University), and Linda Zellmer (Western Illinois University).

GL101 is jointly sponsored by the Geoscience Information Society and Arizona State University Library and will take place from 9 AM to 4:30 PM at the university library.

Advance registration is required and space is limited. You do not need to be registered for the GSA Annual Meeting to participate in GL101.  Registration closes on September 13.  To sign up, please provide your name, daytime contact information, and professional (work/school) affiliation to the seminar coordinator:  Clara P.
