Hello all,
I have in the past held an Open Humanitarian Street Mapping open house on GIS Day where I helped people learn the interface, etc. Here is a simple libguide I made for the event: https://libguides.lib.msu.edu/HOT
This is an easy activity that doesn’t require GIS software or skills and people can use their own laptops if no computer lab is available.
However, attendance was low. I am no longer investing much in GIS Day events, because it seems like a time of year where students especially do not have time for extra activities. And the geography department has their own activities so there is a lot going on already.
This year I am just having a one hour open house in our 360 display space focused on Google Streetview. Which is low key and easy.
Cheers,
Amanda

Hi Tony (and everyone),
I’m not sure if you have the Esri Scholarship, but having students present their work for the scholarship is something we did at Brock University (St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada), while I was there. It was essentially a public presentation, with a panel of judges to later award the scholarship (or, advance the best one for Esri to award the scholarship). We also worked with the campus Geography society to have pizza and drinks, and the library contributed a GIS-themed cake. We also had some trivia, using Esri “swag” and other giveaways from on-campus partners like the bookstore as prizes.
I hope that helps! What do other folks have planned?

Subject: GIS Day ideas
Hello all,
GIS day is rapidly approaching, can we have some ideas shared on how we will plan for that day.
I plan on having an open house for a few hours, but I need ideas on what I can do.
This might be difficult for my library, as our library currently does not support a GIS program (because we are so small).
Thanks,
