Thank you all who replied to my query, both individually and on the List. This provides what I need at present to get the project proposal started, and hopefully bring it to a successful outcome.

Enjoy the Thanksgiving weekend!

Subject: Globe preservation question

Hi all;

I have finally been able to draw enough attention to a globe that we have, in order to get someone interested in exploring restoration. It is ca.1927 and rare enough that the only other surviving match is in Oregon State (who restored theirs a number of years back).

OSU shared their process and problems with us so we know a bit about the piece.

Being a State institution, we will have to make some requests for bids and do a few other things before we can start anything. Our director is interested in getting bids/quotes so that she can make a case for raising funds, or for getting a donor to provide.

What I would like from all  of you are suggestions for preservation companies who restore globes and also the furniture they rest upon. The stand was made by a world renowned local company. The globe is made by a company in the UK.

Any suggestions are appreciated. If you have questions, or ideas, feel free to contact me directly if you wish.

Thank you.
