Good morning Julie and the list,

This imagineRio searchable digital atlas came to my attention recently https://imaginerio.org/#en “Developed by professors Farès el-Dahdah and Alida Metcalf in collaboration with Axis MapsimagineRio is currently being supported by a Digital Art History grant from the Getty Foundation, thanks to which it will be possible to seamlessly integrate temporally accurate geographic data with visual data from the photography collections of the Instituto Moreira Salles in Rio de Janeiro. The project would also not have been possible without the financial and technical support of Rice University's office for Global and Digital Strategy,  Ken Kennedy Institute for Information TechnologyFondren Library nor without content from the Prefeitura do Rio de Janeiro, and Arquivo Nacional, among many other sources.”

Not really digital but definitely transformative and interactive in different ways. The gymnasium sized indigenous map created for the Indigenous Peoples Atlas of Canada has been a highlight for me http://www.canadiangeographic.com/educational_products/ipac_floor_map.asp (includes educational approaches like activities and lesson plans). This webpage was timing out for me earlier so I’ve attached a pdf with the contents and links from a cached version. This map is part of a series of Giant Floor Maps. It was created digitally. It’s an exceptional example of a truly interactive printed map.

Best,
Francine

Subject: Interesting digital projects

Hi, mappers,

I'm trying to create a list that highlights interesting projects and transformative uses for maps.  Do you have a favorite you'd be willing to share with me?

Here are a few that I like to give you and idea of what I'm looking for.

Atlas of the Historical Geography of the United States

British First World War Trench Maps

Virtual Shanghai

USGS Historical Topographic Map Explorer

Thanks for your help with this.

Best,

Julie
