Colleagues-

With COVID-19 causing colleges and universities to move their courses online, educators are seeking information on how to provide access to ArcGIS software for students working remotely, and (sometimes) needing additional licenses.

We have compiled resources in the GeoNet Education space (https://community.esri.com/community/education/pages/overview) to support customers who need additional software/users, advice on teaching online, or online teaching/learning resources.  The “Featured Content” section highlights the most important items, and the “COVID-19 Educator Support Resources” contains a stream of resources that updates frequently.

Software Access

We at Esri are fully committed to providing enough licenses to support continuity of courses and ensure no disruption.  Recommendations for deploying software for remote students and requesting additional licenses if needed are in these blogs:

Advice on Remote Learning

We also will host webinars in which members of the Education Community will share expertise on moving/teaching courses online.  Two are currently planned:

  1. The first will be “Enabling Remote Access to ArcGIS in Higher Education” on Thursday March 19 at 2:00 pm EDT / 11:00 am PDT.  It will present several options for deploying ArcGIS to students working remotely, and emphasize options for on-premises virtualization (e.g., Citrix, VMware) and Cloud virtualization (e.g., Amazon Web Services, Azure).  Registration is *not* required, and a recording will be posted on GeoNet.

  1. The second will be “Moving your Course Online” (date and time TBD).  It will present alternate teaching approaches (e.g., flipped classroom, self-paced resources) and technologies for delivering courses online.

Online Teaching Resources

Resources for online teaching and learning about Coronavirus and GIS generally can be found in these blogs, and Learn ArcGIS Lessons will be available by the end of the week:
