Hi David,

The disclaimer question was raised after a person (using the online map) commented that there was an error with the data on the map. The data source was USGS, but USGS has been a reliable source for map data, so the professor wasn’t sure if the error statement was valid or not.

Thanks!

Greg,

What is the primary concern for the disclaimer? I tend not to include anything on thematic maps, but reference or topographic maps may need a disclaimer about limitation in use for navigation or the need for the map user to consult other sources for local or current conditions.

Hello Map Community,

I have a UT professor who had asked about adding a disclaimer to their online map. Has anyone made it a standard practice to add a disclaimer to their online maps? Any advice on wording of a standard disclaimer, or resources that include examples of disclaimers for online maps would be helpful. I’ve found several resources that reference disclaimers and citation management (libguides, USGS webpages, state and county websites, etc.), but nothing that points to standard disclaimer wording that can be customized to an online map. Any guidance/suggestions is appreciated! Hope everyone is doing well.

Sincerely,

-Greg
