Kimberly Kowal, who took this picture of Ed when she participated in the last LC G&M summer project (I believe 2003?), gave me permission to share it out with others so I am happy to do so. Thank you so much for your generosity Kimberly!

Paige

Thank you for sharing that news with the list, Paige, though I am like others very sorry to hear it. Your note, along with that of Paulette Hasier, captured well the personal qualities that Ed brought to his role and will be remembered for.

As you'll guess, I was lucky enough to become acquainted with Ed from that G&M programme summer, and the photo below was taken then, in the globe area of the vault. Over the years, Ed has stood out in the map library community for his willingness to share his own historical and cartographic knowledge, and/or tap into his extensive contacts and reference skills to ensure research questions were answered as well as was possible!
He will be missed. Please contribute this to whatever may be planned from us, the Maps-L listserve or other map communities.
