The Map Curators’ Group (MCG) of the British Cartographic Society (BCS) will hold its Annual Workshop at British Geological Survey, Keyworth, Nottinghamshire on Wednesday 8^th September 2021.

BCS Annual Conference will be held the following day, Thursday 9th September, at the same venue. 

 

The MCG workshop theme will be:

 Learning from Lockdown : positive developments for our map collections

During Lockdown many of us have learnt new ways of working and begun new projects. Some of these will change the way we work going forward.

What has worked well for you?

 

The organisers are calling for proposals for presentations to be given at the Workshop, on the following suggested topics:

• delivery of online map services
• online public engagement
• digital classrooms
• metadata creation
• toponym thesauri
• map collection development
• any other topic on the theme

 

Those people making presentations will receive free registration to the Workshop. Some assistance is available for speakers travelling from Europe.

Generally, presentations should last approximately 25 minutes. We will ask for a summary to be shared in our newsletter Cartographiti.

While we are hopeful of running a physical workshop, with the dynamic Covid-19 situation it may be necessary to switch to a virtual event. Please indicate in your proposal whether you would also be willing to participate virtually.
