Hello,

Some of you might be interested in the NYC Languages Map launched today. It maps the sites of hundreds of the city’s spoken languages, most of which are not captured by the American Community Survey. Also includes video and audio at many of the sites. Data can be exported using the Data tab.

Subject: New Digital Language Map of NYC is live!

[CAUTION: Non-UBC Email]

Thanks again for helping to beta test the Languages of New York City map!

We're writing to let you know that, as of today, the site is now fully live, incorporating lots of your feedback. It made a huge difference. Check it out at languagemap.nyc and please help us spread the word in any way you can.

The map now shows nearly 700 languages at over 1200 significant sites, including hundreds of communities missed by the census. It makes public for the first time all the data behind ELA's print map, first released in 2019. The need has only grown since, with the Covid-19 pandemic hitting multilingual immigrant neighborhoods hardest. We hope that the map will be useful and of interest to communities, researchers, policymakers, and anyone who cares about cities and languages.

Thanks again,
