Faceting by chapter and query suggestion enhancements added to search in Bibliographic Formats and Standards

Bibliographic Formats and Standards (BFAS) is one of the most popular destinations on the OCLC website. Based on survey feedback from users, we have enhanced the search functionality in BFAS to help you find what you are looking for faster.

We have added search result faceting by chapter to allow you to narrow your search results to just those results in specific chapters. For example, a search for music’ in BFAS returns more than 200 results. But you may be interested only in how music is cataloged using the 3xx fields. This screenshot shows how you can facet down to just those results. You can also select multiple chapters to include in results.

In addition, we have added query suggestions to the search box in BFAS. When you place your cursor in the search box, you will see the most popular and relevant keywords suggested based on previous searches. As you begin to type, those suggestions will change to match your entry. These query suggestions use machine learning to improve over time as more searches are entered and results are selected.

Visit https://www.oclc.org/bibformats/en.html to try these new features. We hope these enhancements make Bibliographic Formats and Standards easier to use and helps speed and simplify your cataloging workflow.
