When my unit moved in 2018 we designated a whole slew of cabinets to become locking cabinets.  At the time we couldn’t find an external gadget commercially available. And so our facilities crew set about to make some.  I got the impression they had a great time doing it.

Searching around, I found this which looks similar but I’m not sure if it is the right size:

Can we attach photos in messages to the listserv?  I have a photo of a commercial external lock bar, back when such things were still available.  Our new ones look basically like this, except are of raw shiny steel.  The real trick is to get a bunch of padlocks that all use the same key.

Quick question:  I need to purchase locks for our map cases. The unit have 5 drawer section. If you have purchased locks for map cases, please share vendor information and any recommendations that you have for map collection usage where the maps do not circulate. Our departmental library was recently closed and the map collection was moved to the main library.

I am working on revising the  Collection Development Policy for the Main Library which seeks to develop a collection that serves the campus and not just the department.
