The National Forest Service Library (NFSL) provides high quality scientific and technical information services to all employees of the USDA Forest Service. Primary customers are scientists and natural resource professionals. The Library’s headquarters is in Fort Collins, Colorado with specialized branches in Madison, Wisconsin and San Juan, Puerto Rico. This position assists with both public and technical services for the entire program. The technician reports to a professional librarian.

The duty station will be the Forest Products Laboratory, Madison, WI.

The Library Technician position’s major duties include:
1. Copy and original cataloging including subject analysis and classification and adapting cataloging records to maintain compatibility with library collections. Responsible for establishing, maintaining, and correcting authority records. Assists with the maintenance of the ILS by identifying and correcting errors.

2. Assists with patron services. Scans literature for document delivery and ILL requests. May be assigned coverage hours at a public service point and perform circulation services. Responds to phone calls, emails, and basic ready reference questions or determines where to direct the inquiry. Assisting Forest Service staff using NFSL resources and services.

3. Assists with other library services such as the development of NFSL’s digital repository and identifying articles and publication for inclusion in the ILS and Monthly Alert.
