Surely the meaning of the term will depend on the context. If it really was on an old 17th century or 18th century map then it probably refers to the hook of land such as a sandspit. If it was a cadastral map showing landownership then I presume it would refer to the funny zigzag line to show ownership of several lots. Is the latter defined in a dictionary or used in any of the atlas introductions as adefining term ?
