Hello,
  MaryJane asked for information on the folks in LA.  Since I also
monitor Geonet-L, I have reports from there.  The information I have
gleaned is:
 
Jim O'Donnell (Cal Tech) has "a couplahundred" books on the floor.
(From Connie Manson-Washington State)
Michael Noga (UCLA) called Charlotte Derksen (Stanford) to report he
was fine. (from Charlotte this AM).
Mary Larsgaard (Santa Barbara) reports their power was out until
about 2:00 PM.  They have books on the floor on the 7th & 8th floors.
