In Germany the use of the Military Grid Reference designators for the 100 kilometer UTM grid squares is common. Of course there are conversions from this ED50 datum to WGS-84 and UTM systems based on WGS-84. One source is (Rudolph Blausch, 1989. Militargeographischer dienst der Bundeswehr.
