This marks the first presence on the Internet by a Canadian embassy Combining text with photos and colour graphics, the site offers a wide variety of information, including: - Canadian-American relations; - embassy services supporting trade and investment opportunities, as well as liaison with international financial institutions; - business and individual tourism to Canada and embassy services supporting tourism promotion in the United States; as well as - cultural and academic affairs. Interactivity with the public is achieved through such features as the ability to send electronic mail to embassy officials directly from a user's World Wide Web browser program. There are links from the site to other resources on the Internet like Industry Canada's Open Government Pilot Project and the World Bank's World Wide Web site. The coming months will see new features such as digital movies and audio files being offered, as well as continually updated documents and expanding Internet links. The Uniform Resource Locator (URL) for the site is: <URL:http://www.nstn.ca/wshdc> The site can be explored with any of the common World Wide Web browser programs, including Mosaic, Netscape Navigator and even the text-based system, Lynx. The best results will come from using the Netscape software, which employs advanced features of Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), the basis of the World Wide Web.
