----------------------------Original message---------------------------- Dear All, I happened to come across the above. If you will excuse the advertising element to this, I think we have just the thing that you need. On May 24th at the GIS '95 Exhibition at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham (UK not Alabama!) we will be formally publishing our Bartholomew GB Maps on CD product. This is a CD containing raster (TIFF) imagery in the same style as our road atlas and at a 1:250000 scale in 50 by 50km National Grid tiles. Combined with this are selected vector overlays containing classified roads, administrative boundaries, postcode areas, districts and sectors, and a 27,000 name Gazetteer of settlements. There is an installation programme which will set things up for immediate use with a choice of Mapinfo, Atlas*GIS or Arcview 2. For Arcview and Mapinfo appropriate workspace/project files are included to ensure that the vectors are fully symbolised and so forth. (a DXF version is also included for anyone wanting it). Using these desktop mapping packages you can then import or create your own overlays, such as your 1800 counties map, and simply add it in to the data from us. You can also link whatever attributes you like to the line, polygons, town points. Having the fully symbolised raster backdrop solves the problem of poor quality output or screen display. The good news is that the CD is free for a 30 day evaluation which gives you access to a fully configured sample of the Edinburgh area. The bad news is that the rest of the CD is encrypted, but I will happily sell you an access code for 900 pounds UK. In effect we are selling the access code and not the CD. Discounts will be available for Universities. Enough commercial! but if you want some free wine do come to the launch at 4pm Weds 24th May GIS '95 on the Bartholomew stand.
