----------------------------Original message---------------------------- I am forwarding this posting from the Archives list as the intended project involves microfilming maps. Please respond directly to Mike McCormick as he is not on this list. I will post any summary he creates. Thanks. I'm aware of the Columbia University map project; indeed, if anyone associated with that project is reading this, I'd appreciate hearing from you. Still, I'd like to contact other curators, archivists, and librarians who have done or are doing such filming. We are currently appraising the scope and condition of our C.C. Baldwin map collection. We have already identified subject areas, such as Civil War military maps, where holdings are unique to our collection. We are interested in the possibility of film as a desemination vehicle, as well as for security and preservation. I already have general knowledge to the technical requirements for Ilfochrome, and have samples. It's great stuff. Fabulous resolution, and excellent color. But, of course, the sales literature doesn't cover the idiosyncracies that emerge when the camera's running. Given the cost of the film, compared to B&W, I want ALL the information I can get before we trip the first shutter. I'll digest any private replies for the list.
