----------------------------Original message---------------------------- An alternative to spraying the maps is to raise the moisture level in the paper, is to place the folded maps in an air-tight container, such as a picnic cooler, with a container holding a wet sponge. Left in the cooler for four or five days, the paper will absorb the moisture from the wet sponge without running the risk of water spots. The maps will unfold very nicely after the four or five days. Place acid free paper between map sheets, and put weight on the stack for a few days. They should be quite flat after that. If you place your maps in acid free folders inside the map case drawers, the folder will help to keep them flat.
