----------------------------Original message---------------------------- ANNOUNCEMENT OF STAFF VACANCY Processing Supervisor and Map Specialist Rotch Library for Architecture and Planning (Administrative Staff Position) RESPONSIBILITIES: Together with the Collections Manager/ Associate Rotch Librarian, you will be responsible for order preparation and local processing of new library materials and for ongoing work with special collections, primarily maps. As supervisor, you will support and direct the work of two part-time support staff members and student assistants. You will work with automated library records (Geac Advance) and assist in the implementation of computerized library systems. You will be the liaison between the local unit and the central technical services departments and will share responsibility for other technical processing and access assignments within the system. Work with the map collection will include learning and teaching the use of ArcView census mapping software to staff and students as well as reorganization and maintenance of the existing map collection of ca. 10,000 items. You will also participate in reference services. QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and related experience is required, as are three years of related experience (not including experience used to fulfill the education equivalency). Experience in library processing routines and automated library systems required. Basic computer literacy essential. Experience with maps and familiarity with mapping systems desirable. Supervisory experience also desirable. Final candidates will be expected to demonstrate well-developed communication and teamwork skills, as well as initiative, flexibility, and the ability to work well in a changing environment. HIRING SALARY RANGE: $25,000 - $27,000 The MIT Libraries include five major subject libraries (architecture and planning; engineering; humanities; science; social sciences and management) and several branch libraries in specialized subject areas. The Libraries contain more than 2.2 million printed volumes, over 21,000 serial subscriptions, and extensive collections of microforms, maps, slides, photographs, sound recordings, printed music, manuscripts, motion pictures, and videotapes. Geac Advance is the Libraries' automated system. The Libraries maintain membership in the Association of Research Libraries, the International Association of Technological University Libraries, the Boston Library Consortium, and OCLC through NELINET. The collections of Rotch Library of Architecture and Planning and its branch library, Rotch Visual Collections, contains over 190,000 printed volumes, 1,600 current subscriptions, and 350,000 visual images. Collection emphasis is on architecture; art and architectural history; fine, applied, and media arts; film and photography; urban studies and planning; regional and third world planning; and real estate development. The Rotch Library staff consists of 7.5 librarians, 2 supervisory staff, 9 support staff and approximately 7 FTE student employees.
