Royal Geographical Society of Britain vote to sever links with Shell.

According to NATURE v379 Jan 11 1996 Britain's Royal Geographical Society
(RGS) voted to drop the Shell Oil company as one of the society's four
corporate patrons in protest at its operations in Nigeria. The RGS' other
patrons are British Airways, Land Rover and Hong Kong and Shanghai
Bank Holdings.

The vote was 204 for, 10 against.

A Shell spokesman said that the RGS severing links would be "sad"
