ANNOUNCING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF IRLGIS-L, THE DISCUSSION FORUM FOR IRISH GIS.
Geographical information systems (GIS) are now well-established in Ireland,
with
a growing body of users, an expanding commercial vendor/service/support
base, and
an increasing number of GIS-literate graduates coming onto the employment
market seeking jobs.
With this growth, it has been clear for some time that an informal, rapid-
turnaround forum would be useful, whereby members of the Irish GIS community
could keep in contact with each other, pose questions, discuss issues of
mutual interest, advertise job vacancies, seek data, announce meetings, etc.
Accordingly, an Internet Listserv discussion group, called IRLGIS-L, has been
established to provide a forum specifically for the Irish GIS community.
Subscription to the list is open to anyone with access to the Internet,
whether at home or abroad, who has interests in matters relating to GIS in
Ireland.
To join the list send an e-mail message to [log in to unmask] The text
of your message should say (without the quote marks) "SUBSCRIBE IRLGIS-L " You will then receive confirmation of your subscription, and full
details
about the service and additional commands and functions you can avail of if you
so choose.
The actual list address, to which announcements, questions and other postings
intended for the entire membership should be sent, is [log in to unmask]
Archives of the list (only there aren't any yet) will be available under
http://listserv.hea.ie/lists.
Please feel free to circulate this announcement.
With best wishes,
Darius Bartlett
