Hi Nancy!
It was good to see you in Washington on Sunday and I think you'll agree the
Map Discussion group was a success (only I wish there had been at least
another 30 minutes to continue our lively discussions). Thanks for being the
first to throw out a cataloging question and I hope some of the other
attendees do the same.
As for your question, I've perused the OCLC LC authority record, then
double-checked what I found against both the _USMARC Format for Authority
Data_ and OCLC's _Bibliographic formats and input standards_ to make sure
that I am answering your question correctly. I freely admit that I may be in
error, so if anyone else is monitoring my reply please feel free to jump in
and help me out!
It looks like you were close, but that your =n and =v are turned around! In
the OCLC Bib. input standards, =n for the 830 field is titled "Number of
part [or] section of a work" and says "The number designation of a
part/section of a work used in a uniform title heading. Numbering is an
indication of sequencing in any form (e.g., Part 1, Supplement A, Book
two)." And =v is titled "Volume number [or] Sequential designation" and says
"The volume number of other sequential designation used in conjunction with
the series statement."
Also, the LC authority record for GSGS Series shows the numbering sequence
as a four digit number, their example being "5080" in the 642 field.
So, I *think* it should be: 830 0 GSGS (Series) =n Sheet C14 =v 4948
I hope this helps a bit and also hope to see at least a couple more
responses to your question.
Paige
