Take a look at the Geological Survey pubs on map projections.  They
should give you a pretty good and "real" way to do the transformations.
I did this once for some maps that were projected in Miller's
Cylindrical and that I needed to be in an EA projection.  I took the
equations for the MC and figured out how to calculate the equivalents
for the EA projection I finally used (don't remember which one now).
