----------------------------Original message---------------------------- I missed the interview in question. As a USGS map dealer we get alot (well, relatively speaking) complaints about incorrect maps. We certainly don't need anyone promoting that USGS maps are incorrect. This sort of leads into something else - that the USGS has decided not to update a map unless someone else pays at least 1/2 of the total cost. They also decided that topography would not be updated at all unless someone pays the total cost of updating the topography. This "someone" can be another government agency, such as the Forest Service, etc., or a state government, or a corporation. I hate to think about the quality of mapping in those states with low population and low budgets for this type of thing.
