Harley Research Fellowships in the History of Cartography London, U.K. in association with The British Library National Maritime Museum Public Record Office Royal Geographical Society ------------------------------------------- Applications for the 1998 Fellowships are invited from anyone pursuing advanced research in the history of cartography, irrespective of nationality, discipline or profession. 'Advanced research' is taken to mean work towards a doctorate, post-doctoral research, and work of an equivalent level regardless of the applicant's formal qualifications. Preference will be given to interpretative studies in map history, irrespective of area, theme or period. The Harley Fellowships are prestigious as the only ones of their kind in Europe. They aim to promote use of the great wealth of cartographic material in London. Fellowships may be awarded for up to four weeks at 250 pounds per week. Nine Fellowships have been awarded in the past four years, to a museum curator, a social scientist and doctoral students and academics from departments of English, Fine Arts and History.
