----------------------------Original message---------------------------- Sorry for the delay. Many of you have asked for these collated and edited replies to my question regarding fees for map search or copy services. As you can see there is a wide range of services: Killam Library, Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia: Copies: sections of maps ...0.25$ per page Printing: 0.25$ per page b/w 0.50$ color --------------------------- Harvard Map Collection: Copies: small materials (current) that can be locally can be done by the students themselves for .05/copy. Oversize copies (17 x 11) which requires a staff member to do the copying costs .50/copy. Large oversize copies that are sent out of the Library to a copying service just down the street are charged the commercial price/sq.ft. (ca. $1.25 for bond paper) and an additional $1 service fee on top of that. Commercial photography (for-profit): charged photo costs plus $250 for permission fees. Non-commercial (not-for-profit): usually charged photo costs plus $100 for permission fees. Reference Services: No charge yet. Will be looking at charging for maps produced from our GIS services -- i.e. .50/color copy and $5.00 for prints off of our HP 750C plotter. ------------------------------------ University of Washington Map Collection: Copies: see http://weber.u.washington.edu/~maplib/copy.htm 8-1/2x11, 8-1/2x14 and 11x17 b&w photocopier in Collection. Info Specialist's time: $50/hr with $25 minimum charge per request. Database access fees vary. 14.7% University surcharge applies to all research and database services. Map Collection has referred people who want aerial photographs located and pulled to Research Express. See http://weber.u.washington.edu/~resxp/ -------------------------------- Information Services/Services d'information Earth Sciences Information Centre/Centre d'information sur les sciences de la Terre: Copies: .25 per sheet (in person) or $8 up to 25 originals Colour copies: $3.25 (81/2 X 11); $4 (81/2 X 14); $4.75 (11 X 17) Full image photocopy: $8 Searches: first 15 minutes are free, then $60 per hour charges apply Loan: $5 per map sheet plus $5 for shipping and handling (per package) ------------------------------------------ The University of Oregon MAP Library: Copies/Reference: We research a specific site in our aerial photography collection and let the patron (usually an environmental consultant of some kind) know what years/scales of photography we have for their site. No charge for this. If the patron wants copies, they let us know which photos they want. We then charge $35.00 per hour ($50.00 per hour for out of state folk) to mask off the site for laser copies. Kinkos picks up the photos and makes color laser copies/enlargments and returns photos and copies to us in the same day. We then identify the copies in pencil, wrap up with a bill and send the package off. The original prints are returned to the collection. Patrons requesting this service first establish a corporate account with Kinkos and so, all copying done in the company's name is billed to that company by Kinkos--we never bill for copying. Our invoice is payable in 30 days. If the account falls past due, no future work will be done for the company until things are made right. No charge for off-campus users who walk in asking for aerial photos. We only ask that they call in advance of their visit and let us know their area of interest. We do make an informal distinction between "For-Profit" patrons and independent researchers. We do not charge for research time or for a quick copy of a map that will suit the interests of a remote patron. ------------------------------------- UCLA: Copies: most materials photocopied by the patrons themselves; exceptions are made when the condition of a particular item precludes photocopying. If patrons want special products made we have them engage a private company which has a bonded messenger service which picks up and returns the maps to us. We wave all handling charges to our primary clientele, but charge a handling fee to other individuals per a fee schedule set up by our special collections libraries. ---------------------------------- Indiana University: Copies: $.25 per exposure (regular paper size 8 1/2 x 11) or $3.00 per copy of topo size. This is not a highly publicized service, but is done only as part of our public service responsibilities. The amount collected just covers paper and postage costs as we do not try to add in staff costs. ---------------------------------- UCSD: Copies/Reference: under our Corporate Services/PLUS group. The fee is $70/hour. ------------------------------------------- Science & Technology Library, University of Alberta: Copies/search: Basically we charge $60.00 (Canadian) approx $45 US - per hour. We don't encourage this due to staff limitations, but the service is there. We can provide photocopies up to 11 x 17 b&w.
