----------------------------Original message---------------------------- Carolyn -- As one who is intimately familiar with ALL of those wall maps I think you could "easily" discard a minimum of 50% of them! Our collection at Harvard is perhaps 25% of the one at Indiana and we are planning a discard after this semester. I don't know if Dan kept any records of what, or whom, used the collection in or outside of the department - we used to LONG AGO! Basically, if they are not being used they then need to be evaluated as to their historical/rarity value and I do not remember any of the Indiana collection falling into that category. By this I mean do you have any 1780 or 1815 wall maps? If you simply have a number of Cram early 20th century wall maps showing historical boundaries, etc., etc. I would opt to discard. However, like all other things, every thing has its value to someone and you would be best advised to offer them to other libraries via Maps-L.
