----------------------------Original message---------------------------- Digging deeper in the collection, I see that the USGS 15' sheet, Hooper Bay (D-2), Alaska, [date of survey, 1952] shows that dramatic loop in the Kun River. The publication date for the sheet I'm looking at is 1965, so that connector might have been dug, as it does appear that the two ribbons of the river touch each other at that point.
