Due to the late notice we received on this exhibit and lecture, it
looks as if I will not be able to attend Gunther Schilder's talk, as
Tuesday is our late night here at the olde Library. If possible, I
would request an attendee to write up the talk and program for the New
York Map Society newsletter, the NEMO newsletter, etc. If I have a
volunteer out there, might you email me? Many thanks!!! Alice Hudson

     Dear Mapfolk,

I have just been made aware by a fellow staff member and a researcher
here in the Research Libraries, NYPL, of an exhibit being held in NYC
this season. I apologize for the late notice, but encourage map folk
in the metro area who are interested in Dutch mapping to stop by the
     Equitable Gallery for a look.

"The Dutch in the Americas 1600-1800"

     Curated by Dr. Wim Klooster.

     John Carter Brown Library.

The exhibition is free and open to the public. The Equitable Gallery,
787 Seventh Avenue, at 5lst Street, is open 11 am to 5 pm weekdays,
and 12 noon to 5 pm on Saturdays.

Catalogues of the exhibition are available forsale at the Brooklyn
Museum Shop [branch] at 787 Seventh Avenue, next to the Equitable
Gallery, or may be purchased by mail by writing to the John Carter
     Brown Library. Paper cover: $35.00 plus postage and packaging charges;
cloth cover $45.00 plus postage and packaging charges.

For information about the exhibit only, call 212-554-4818.

Also of note, a lecture by Guenther Schilder, University of Utrecht,
The Netherlands 6:30 pm, Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998 in The Equitable
Tower, 787 Seventh Avenue, 49th Floor.

Jim Raleigh says to bring your cameras to shoot the view, after dark!

FYI, the Map Division, NYPL, is just a few blocks south and east of
the Equitable Gallery, and we will be open February 10th, from
11-7:30. So if you are in town for Guenther's lecture, stop by and say
hello! We'll even let you touch our Blaeus...
