In August 1996, the USGS changed the I-map series name from
Miscellaneous Investigations Series to Geologic Investigations Series.
All geologic maps approved for publication after August 1996 will be
published in the Geologic Investigation Series.  However, maps approved
for publication before that date will have the Miscellaneous
Investigation Series name.  Eventually all maps will be in the Geologic
Investigation Series.  They are still called I-maps and the definition
of the series remains the same.
 
Both series I-maps are listed in the "New Publications of the U.S.
Geological Survey" and the list can be seen at
http://pubs.usgs.gov/publications/index.html.
