The representation should include a practitioner. Eric representing
metadata/cataloging and Prue representing policy/administation are
excellent, however neither of their assignments are directly related to
working with cartographic or digital cartographic materials or the
extended spatial data user community. There are distinct
characteristics to the users access to geospatial information. M.
Goodchild says, "A geolibrary is a library filled with georeferenced
information. Information is found and retrieved by matching the area for
which information is needed with the footprints of items in the library,
and by matching other requirements--but the footprints always provide
the primary basis of search." As far as collections and interface to
them, map librarians are the librarians most experienced with spatial
queries... and it is the collection building and interface issues that
are most at issue.
