----------------------------Original message---------------------------- One of my patrons pointed this article out to me before I saw the MAPS-L notice. On p. 78 is the sentence: "In their time, the USGS 15-minute maps--referred to as "medium scale"--were considered the best for backcountry travel on trails, but the agency recently discontinued the series." What the agency recently did is quit selling them. They haven't made them for quite a few years. I've had several patrons ask for 15s and they don't seem to know that they are superceded, and have been for some time!! ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: "I'm Mary and I'm a topoholic" Author: Maps and Air Photo Systems Forum <[log in to unmask]> at sos08410 Date: 3/30/98 3:20 PM ----------------------------Original message---------------------------- Kudos to Mary Larsgaard for the article about her and the map collection at UCSB in the April 1998 issue of _Backpacker_. The article is on page 76 (along with a picture of Mary) and is entitled "I'm Mary and I'm a Topoholic." --Christopher JJ Thiry Map Librarian Colorado School of Mines 1400 Illinois PO Box 4029 Golden, CO 80401-0029 voice: 303-273-3697 fax: 303-271-3617 [log in to unmask] http://www.mines.edu/library/maproom/ http://www.mines.edu/fs_home/cthiry/
