Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: provision of leadership for library-wide, GIS (Graphical Information Systems) technology-based public service initiatives and projects; consultation, training and creation of informational materials for students and faculty using GIS tools; planning for hardware and software environments for geospatial map files. Plans and implements user education programs and activities related to digital geospatial data and mapping in order to better integrate GIS skills into instruction and learning on campus. Collaborates with other departments on campus in identifying ongoing campus user needs for GIS and digital geospatial data. Position is also responsible for planning and implementing digital library initiatives (e.g. scanning historical aerial photography and archiving digital cartographic data) in the MAP Library. Performs the full range of public services for campus and community, involving the full collection of cartographic materials, maps, aerial photography, and atlases held by the MAP Library. Assists in overseeing MAP collection maintenance and in assigning/supervising student workers who provide a variety of services. Participates in general library instruction (credit and non-credit workshops) and collection development decisions. QUALIFICATIONS: Required: ALA-accredited MLS degree OR a master's degree in Geography (GIS specialty). Academic background or work experience with digital geospatial data and cartographic materials. Familiarity with cartographic design, as well as with a variety of mapping and graphics software products. High degree of computer literacy and interest in current awareness of new technologies. Excellent communication skills and potential to excel as an instructor. Student supervisory experience desirable. Professional growth and service in keeping with university and library standards for faculty promotion and retention is expected. SALARY: $27,500 minimum. Appointment beyond the minimum salary will depend upon qualifications, education, and post-master's degree experience. Librarians have faculty status and privileges, academic rank, and are non-tenure track, with fixed-term, renewable contracts (two or three years, depending on rank).
