He should do some searching on oclc etc. and in ref tools to even find out what is, was available, and then check various catalogs to see what library has the required items. He should develop a very precise list of countries and required scales, and then look in the appropriate reference tools. We would not welcome such a group without an appointment, and without their having done some groundwork before they arrived on our doorstep. We expect college students and professors to be able to do the preliminary research themselves. Sprankle" <[log in to unmask]> I have had a request from a professor, with a class of 10 students, who needs to consult maps of countries in Europe, Asia, and Africa, which were formerly colonies of European countries. Some examples include Nigeria, Angola, Sri Lanka, Burma, Yugoslavia, and several others. The class could travel to a library which is not too far afield, such as NYPL, Princeton, or other collection in New Jersey or NYC. The class meets during the Fall Semester, not during the summer. The problem comes in the type of maps--he wants detail, at the county equivalent level, showing boundaries and boundary changes from the colonial era to the present time. Among other topics, the class will be studying the effects of independence on ethnic groups. Does your map collection provide maps of this type, or, do you know of a collection which does have maps with the appropriate dates and detail for former colonies? Atlases or flat maps will be fine. Any ideas? (His original thought was to purchase copies of these maps!) _____________________________________________________________________________ Anita T.
