Subject: new NZ atlas

To complement the recent Historical Atlas of New Zealand, and the slightly
older Atlas of New Zealand Boundaries, Bateman has just published
"Bateman Contemporary Atlas New Zealand, the Shapes of Our Nation",
by Dr Russell Kirkpatrick

The book is reviewed in journalistic form in New Zealand Herald, 21-22
August 1999, pA18 "Atlas gets to places other maps missed" by Theresa Garner.
This article MAY be available online at www.nzherald.co.nz

The atlas looks at distributions of phenomena, for example maps of dairies
(milk bars/mixed businesses/ small grocers) in Auckland, and a table
showing that 80% of them are owned by Indians (proving an old stereotype).
