Both ArcView and ArcInfo now can read the VPF (Vector Product Format) version of the newer VMap-0 published by NIMA. When using ArcView version 3.0 or newer, you can use the VPF Viewer Extension to access the VMap data directly from the CD-ROMs. When using ArcInfo, there is a utility to convert from the VPF format to ArcInfo coverage format. Several years ago ESRI converted the original DCW to ArcInfo format, which is the product to which Michael refers. However, the VMap-0 product is more recent (I don't remember what all the changes are...) and less expensive, so if you already own it, by all means, use VMap-0 rather than purchase something additional. It comes on 4 CDROMs and can be obtained from your local USGS map dealer for $100 or something. It also runs under WinNT, however you'll need additional software in order to visualize the map content. It's called NIMAMUSE (National Imagery and Mapping Agency Mapping, Charting & Geodesy Software Environment) and can be downloaded from the NIMA's web site (www.nima.mil) at no cost. If you're using ArcInfo or ArcView in your library there's also a version of VMAP0 designed specifically to meet the needs of ArcInfo users. It's called DCW (Digital Chart of the World) and is available from ESRI for $300 or so. Thanks, Michael Okonek At 15:45 99-11-22 -0500, you wrote: >Thank you for your speedy reply.
