International Photo Contest

The Student Council on Globalization and the OIE will be sponsoring an
International Photo Contest. International students studying at UGA and
U.S. students who have taken photos of their travels abroad can
participate. First prize is $75. Photos are due to the OIE by Oct. 15 and
the award reception will be held on Oct. 29 in 215B Barrow Hall at 6 p.m.
Limit 3 per person. Photos that communicate a cross-cultural experience are
preferred. For more information and an entry form, please see:

Costa Rica Ecology Program Information Session

There will be an information session on the Maymester 2003 and fall
semester 2003 Costa Rica Ecology Program from 5-6 p.m. on Tuesday, October
8 at the Institute of Ecology. There will be signs in the Institute
directing you to the room where the meeting will take place. They will show
the latest video (about 35 minutes long) and have program information and
application materials on hand.  If you are unable to make it to the
meeting, but are interested in the program, you can e-mail the director,

International Post-doctoral Fellowship Opportunity

The Institute of Latin American Studies in London and the Latin American
Centre, St Antony's College, Oxford wish to appoint a Post-doctoral
Research Fellow in the area of Law and Politics. The post is funded by a
grant from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. The person appointed
should have a doctorate in any of the social sciences or contemporary
history in the broad area of the relationship between law and political
development with reference to Latin America. Further details are available

Model African Union

Georgia Perimeter College will be hosting this year's Southeast Model
African Union (SEMAU) Conference on November 7, 8, and 9, 2002. This event
will give students an opportunity to learn diplomacy and governmental

Study Abroad Program Representative Visit

John Wells from the Center for Education Abroad at Arcadia University will
be on campus on Wednesday, October 9th from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in 143 Tate
Student Center. He will be holding an information session for students
interested in Arcadia's programs to Australia, England, Scotland, Wales,
Ireland, Northern Ireland, New Zealand, Mexico, Spain, Italy, and Greece.

Join the Office of International Education and the UGA Career Services
Center  in a workshop on how to market your international experience! This
workshop will be held in 215 B Barrow Hall on Thursday, October 10, 2002 at
3:30 p.m. This is a great time to figure out how to "sell" yourself and
your study abroad experience on your resume!! All returned study abroad
students and other students interested in these opportunities are invited
to attend.

serves as a platform for interaction with Athens Indian Community and

Donations Needed for International Silent Auction

Last year, thanks to the generosity of UGA faculty and students, the
Student Council on Globalization raised over $280 for study abroad
scholarships at their International Silent Auction. We hope to double that
this year. If you have any items you could donate from your travels abroad
(clothing, jewelry, art, trinkets, music, etc.), please reply to this

East Asia Summer Institutes for U.S. Graduate Students

Do you want to spend your next summer in East Asian cities like Beijing,
Tokyo, Seoul, and Taipei? The East Asia Summer Institutes for U.S. Graduate
Students provide U.S. graduate students in science and engineering with
first-hand experience in Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Taiwanese research
environments, an introduction to the science and science policy
infrastructure of the respective locations, and language training during an
eight week summer program. International airfare, living expenses in the
host location, and a summer stipend of $2,500 are provided. Application
