International Student Life events
=================================
1. International Coffee Hour will be held this Friday, September 1, from
11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  Admission is Free.  The African Student Union
is the sponsor for this week's Coffee Hour.  Come join the fun.

2. An organizational meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 29 at 6:30
p.m. in the Tate Student Center, Room 137 for International Student
Organization Leaders and World Ambassadors (L.A.W.).  This is a very
important meeting as we will discuss registration, events, monthly
meetings and budgets.

3. Braves vs. Diamondbacks.  The Hispanic Student Association and the
Atlanta Braves invite you out to the ballpark to celebrate a very
special night.  On the evening of September 7th, 2000, Turner Field will
come alive with Latin Music and Dance!  Live pre-game plaza
entertainment, fan/player interview, in-park trivia and entertainment,
recognition of group on Matrix Board. To celebrate the night, tickets
will be offered at a great discount through September 6th, upper
pavilion $5.00 are available for $3.00.  The Braves are sponsoring a
complementary pre-game reception for the first 100 people.  For baseball

Other University Events

1. The International Student Outreach (ISO) is inviting ALL
international students and their families to a "Welcome to the South"
dinner on Friday, September 1 at 6:00 p.m.  The dinner will be in the
Tate Student Center in Georgia Hall (first floor).  THIS IS A FREE
DINNER FOR INTERNATIONALS.  They will provide "Southern" food, music and
a dance team will perform.  Children's activities will be available.  A
short Christian message will be shared.  So come join them for a great
evening!  Welcome to the South!

2.  American International Conversational English Class open house
meeting will be held Friday, September 1 at 3:35 p.m. at the Baptist
Student Union located at 450 Lumpkin Street (Baptist Center).  Who
should come?  Anyone interested in conversational English. Activities
include making new friends, asking questions, playing games, and free
food. For additional information, please contact Amanda at 357-0827.

3.  An American and International Student white water rafting trip to
Nantahala River in Nantahala, North Carolina is scheduled for September
15-16, 2000.  Lodging: Country Hearth Inn, Andrews, NC, Cost: $45.00 -
includes lodging, transportation, rafting, training, Saturday breakfast
and lunch.  $35.00 for non-rafters.  No, you did not misread the price!
Registration deadline: September 7, 2000.  Sign up and pay in the BSU
office, 450 Lumpkin Street, phone # 549-2747.  Contact Amanda Campbell -

4. Photographers from Carl Wolf Studio, Inc, will be arriving at UGA to
take portraits for the 2001 PANDORA yearbook starting Tuesday, September
5 through September 14, 2000.  The portrait session will be held in Rm
138 of the Tate Center from 9am-6pm, Mon, Tue and Fri and from 9am-9-m
on Wed and Thu.  There is no cost to have your picture taken.

scheduling, which is uga (all lower case).  THe password will be 0060.
If you do not have access to the internet, call 1-800-969-1338, Ext. 2,
Monday through Thursday 9am to 5pm to schedule an appointment.

SENIORS ONLY Portraits will be taken of the men in suit and tie and the
women will have their portrait taken in blouse/sweater or dress.  Each
student will have additional pictures taken in cap & gown.  Pictures
cannot be retouched for flyaway hair, unmanageable ends and wisps or the
five o'clock shadow.  For additional information contact Damon E.

5.  Art for the Afterlife: Chinese funerary art of the Han Dynasty will
be on display August 26-October 22 at the Martha and Eugene Odum Galley
of Decorative Arts, Georgia Museum of Art.  The exhibition includes
ceramic figures originally placed in Chinese tombs to comfort the
spirits of the deceased to guide them to the afterlife.
