Study Abroad Program Representative Visit

Thinking about studying in Australia? Come meet Tony Barrett from the
Australian Education Connection on Thursday, February 8th. He will be in
Tate 143 from 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. The Australian Education Connection (AEC) is
an information and enrollment service to Australian universities and
colleges that charges the same as the cost of direct enrollment in an
Australian university plus a program deposit of $50, which is fully
refundable if the AEC is not able to place the student.

International Activities on Campus

If you are interested in participating in the planning for the
International Street Festival, planning meetings are held every Tuesday
from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 in the ISL Lounge in 210 Memorial Hall.  For more
information contact ISL at 542-5867.

An informational session for those interested in being international
student orientation leaders will be held Wednesday, February 7th at 5:30
p.m. in the ISL Lounge in 210 Memorial Hall.  Orientation leaders will be
required to commit to the week of August 6-12, 2001. For more information

Scholarships for Study Abroad

The Institute for International Education offers 10 unrestricted grants per
year of $500 to undergraduate and graduate students studying abroad. The
deadline for this year will be March 16, 2001 for programs in the summer of
2001 or in the 2001-2002 academic year, including spring 2002. Students
must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents in good academic standing.
Programs in non-Western countries and for a semester or longer are
preferred. This is a very competitive scholarship. IIE is also offering one
travel grant of $2,500 for a student going on a program to a developing
country for a semester or more. For more information, please see:

The Council on International Educational Exchange offers a variety of
scholarships to students attending their programs in a variety of locations
worldwide. For more information on their programs and scholarships, please

The School for International Training offers scholarships for students
attending their programs in a variety of locations worldwide. For more
information on their programs, please see: <http://www.sit.edu>. More
information on scholarships can be found in the Study Abroad Library in 209
Barrow Hall.

AIFS (The American Institute for Foreign Study) has announced two new
scholarships for summer study abroad on AIFS programs. The AIFS Foundation
Kraków Scholarship will award 10 scholarships of $2000 each to students on
the four week AIFS Summer program in Kraków, Poland at the Polonia
Institute at Jagiellonian University in July 2001.  The program offers
courses in Polish language, history and culture.

In addition, AIFS has announced that it will augment any Gilman Scholar who
travels on an AIFS study abroad program with an additional $500
scholarship. Students should apply on the regular AIFS application form and
attach proof of the Gilman award.  The AIFS scholarship will then be
automatically awarded. More information on AIFS programs and scholarships

Note: The Gilman Scholarship guidelines and deadlines have not yet been
announced. The OIE will send out a message on this listserve as soon as we
have more information on applying for those scholarships.

New Study Abroad/Internship Program in Wales

The Dept. of Political Science at Ohio University has started a program
where students may do internships in the National Assembly for Wales. This
is a one-semester program. Students earn 16 credits. This is not a paid
internship. Rather, it is a study abroad program for which students pay and
earn credit. For more information, please visit:

abroad advisor about transferring back credit for internships at UGA.
