Study Abroad Program with Openings Still Available

The Service Learning in Croatia Study Abroad Program still has openings
available for its summer session, July 9 - July 30, 2002. The application
deadline is April 26, 2002. The program is an interdisciplinary examination
of the dynamic nature of community development, which focuses on service
learning projects based in local and regional settings in Croatia. Special
emphasis will be placed on developmental issues in the tourist-based
economy among Croatia's Adriatic Islands and in the rural areas of the
Croatian northwestern mountainous regions - Zumberak and Gorski Kotar. It
will involve a small group of students who will gain a "hands-on"
experience of working on a project related to sustainable economic
development in Croatia. Students can sign up for any of the following
courses for a total of six (6) credits:
LAND 4910/6910 or LAND 4911/6911: Independent or Special Directed Studies
in Environmental Design and Historic Preservation
GEOG 4660/6660: Urban and Regional Development
GEOG 4920/6920: Special Problems in Area Analysis
GEOG 4750/ 6750: Geography of Europe
It is also possible to arrange for students to get credit for directed
research in other fields/under other course numbers, if requested. For more

International Events on Campus

The Student Council on Globalization will be showing "Life is Beautiful" on
Friday, April 26 at 6:00 p.m. in the North PJ Auditorium. "Life is
Beautiful" was the Grand Prix winner at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival, and
also won director-cowriter-star Roberto Benigni Best Foreign Language Film
and Best Actor awards at the 1998 Academy Awards, at which point (you'll
undoubtedly recall if you were watching the Oscars), Benigni got up on
stage and kissed every member of the academy. Don't miss this incredible film!

Roberto B. Saladin-Selin, Ambassador to the United States from the
Dominican Republic will be speaking on Dominican Republic-United States
Relations in the Political, Economic and Social Context of the 21st Century
on April 22 at 3:30 p.m. in Room K/L of the Georgia Center for Continuing
Education.

SCOG Car Wash

Let the pollen and dirt build up on your car in anticipation of the SCOG
car wash on April 28 from noon - 3:00 at Chick-fil-a in the Beechwood
shopping plaza. Money raised will be used to fund study abroad and
international student scholarships.

Student Quotes

-From a student studying in Sydney, Australia:
"The weather is amazing, the people are friendly and fun, and there's so
much to do I don't think I could possibly get to it all in my 4 months
here."
