Freshman Seminar on Study Abroad
FRES 1010: Study Abroad (18-841)
Instructor: Mark W. Lusk, International Affairs
Time and Place: Wednesdays, 4th period
(11:15-12:05), 215B Barrow Hall
An overview of international education as part of the undergraduate
experience. Students will review the opportunities, benefits, costs, and
procedures for participation in UGA study abroad programs and Georgia
System of Higher Education programs. The seminar will cover study abroad in
various regions of the world, language-based programs, faculty-led study
abroad, semester and one year exchanges, security issues, cultural
adjustment, risk management, and scholarships. The seminar will include
presentations by representatives of several UGA programs. Dr. Mark Lusk is
Associate Provost for International Affairs. Professor Lusk has lived and
studied outside of the United States for almost a third of his life. He has
been involved in international education for over 20 years and is fluent in
Spanish and proficient in Portuguese. His most recent book is
International Development with Stoesz and Guzzetta.
