International Student Life events

1.  Enjoy Japan with a twist of American!  This Friday's Coffee Hour
promises to be an exciting event with the Japan Club and the United
Methodist Church as our hosts for this week's coffee hour, 11:30 am -
1:30 pm in the Memorial Hall Ballroom.  Free food, lemonade and Coffee.
Come join us in Japan!

2.  Garba Nite, held during the month of Phalgun, is a festive event
celebrated by people dancing to the lively beats of the Raas-Garba. It
serves as a platform for interaction with the Athens Indian Community
and our very own students from the Indian Student Association.  It will
be held on October 13th, 2002, in Georgia Hall.  For additional

Office of International Education (OIE)

1.  If you have not updated your mailing address in Oasis please do so!
OIE has had several calls that students are not receiving correspondence
sent out by the Office of International Education.  The reason students
are not receiving correspondence from OIE is because your current
addresses have not been updated. Please remember - INS regulations state
you must file an AR-11 form every time you have an address change.  If
you have any questions or concerns, please call the Office of
International Education at 542-7903.

Other University Events

1.  Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Film Series:  Expulsion & Memory:
Descendants of The Hidden Jews.  Tuesday, September 24, 5:30 PM. Room
B-2, Main Library. Contact: 583-0212.  Sponsored by the UGA Libraries,
the Walter J. Brown Media Archives, the Peabody Awards Collection and
the Athens-Clarke County Library. For details of the screening go to
www.libs.uga.edu/media/hispan02.html. This screening will be repeated
Thursday, September 26, 7:30 PM, at the Athens-Clarke County Library.

2.  Open Mic with Mike:  This event is an opportunity for students to
talk face to face with the President of UGA, Dr. Michael Adams. This
session will be on Wednesday, September 25, 2002, at 6:00 PM in the
Brumby Rotunda.

3.  RUN, LOLA, RUN, German Film (English subtitles),Wednesday, September
25, 7:30 pm South PJ Auditorium.  Admission Free. Sponsored by
International Affairs Committee of the Student Government Association.

4.  Minority Services and Programs presents Cultural Cafe.  Kalimba
Player Lee Winner will perform.  The program will open with our very own
international musician, Swagata "Ban" Banerjee.  Friday, September 27th
at 8:00 p.m. in Adinkra Hall.  Co-sponsored by Indian Cultural Exchange
and the Black Affairs Council.  For more information contact Minority
Services and Programs at 542-5774.

5.    Dogs After Dark -- At the Ramsey Center.  Friday, September 27,
2002, 10:00 p.m. - 2:00 a.m.  Fee with UGA Card.  Activities include
Laser Plex, Screamers, Ultimate Challenge II, Orbotron, Ultra Air
Volleyball, DJ, and FREE food provided by Chi-Fil-A at 11:00 p.m. for
the first 500 students in line.

6.  Academic Enhancement invites you to an open house.  Help them
celebrate 25 years of "Making Good Students Better", Thursday, October
3, 2002, 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, Milledge Hall.

7.  Learning to Drive?  Come to the Free Driving and Car Care Clinic,
Saturday, October 5,  9:00 AM - 12:00 PM, in the Milledge Avenue Baptist
Church Parking Lot.  Learn basic driving skills to prepare for the road
test and get some information on basic car care and maintenance.
Registration required.  For registration and additional information
contact Becky Adkins at [log in to unmask]  Sponsored by the American
International Fellowship of the Baptist Student Union.

8.  "Feel free to ask?":  Dilemma for international students in class.
This program aims to discuss factors that may hinder international
students' participation in classroom activities.  Some examples
include:  communication  apprehension, classroom atmosphere, and pros
and cons in using a group discussion format.  Wednesday, October 9, Tate
Room 145, 12: p.m. - 1:00 p.m.  Free for students, faculty and staff.
Drop by and bring your lunch.  Sponsored by the  Counseling and
Psychological Services (CAPS) 542-2273.
