International Student Life events

1.  Join us at Tea Talk, a wonderful, informal intimate setting to
discuss global issues and sip tea.  This month's topic will be "The
United States' Role in the Middle East".  Speaker Seema Gahlaut,
Director of Southeast Asia Programs at the Center for International
Trade and Security.  Thursday, October 3rd at 6:00 p.m. in the ISL
Lounge, 210 Memorial Hall.  Sponsored by the World Ambassadors.

2.  Enjoy two wonderful cultures!  This week's Campus Coffee Hour
promises to be just as exciting as the last,  with the Thai Student
Association and the Hispanic Student Association sponsoring this week's
Coffee Hour, from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm in the Memorial Hall Ballroom.
Free food, lemonade and Coffee.

3.  Garba Nite, held during the month of Phalgun, this festive event is
celebrated by people dancing to the lively beats of the Raas-Garba. It
serves as a platform for interaction with Athens Indian Community and
students from the Indian Students Association. October 13th, 2002,

4.  Join ISL as we celebrate National International Education Week,
November 18-22.  Look for upcoming events!

5.  Join ISL and the UGA International Community as we host a mini
festival on the Tate Plaza.  Watch and participate in cultural
performances, see cultural displays and more!  Wednesday, November 20,
2002 from 10:00 - 4:00 p.m.  For more information contact the ISL office
at 542-5867.

6.  ISL and the Baptist Student Union are sponsoring a Thanksgiving
Feast with the Baptist Student Union.  Enjoy a feast with all the
traditional American trimmings!  The feast is free to all international
students and their families!  Monday, November 25, 2002 from 6:00 pm -
9:00 p.m. at the Baptist Student Union located on Lumpkin Street. Call
the office at 542-5867 or e-mail the office at [log in to unmask] to sign
up!  Make sure to list a contact number and e-mail, name of each person
attending and contact person.

Office of International Education

1.  18th Annual UGA Study, Work & Travel Abroad Fair. Sponsored by the
Office of International Education. An opportunity for students to learn
more about how to achieve a world class education. Both UGA sponsored
programs as well as options not sponsored by the university will be on
site to exhibit their opportunities for students. 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM.
Georgia Hall, Tate Student Center. Contact: 542-7903.

2.  If you have not updated your mailing address in Oasis please do so!
The Office of International Education has had several calls that
students are not receiving correspondence sent out by their office and
that is because your address has not been updated.  Please remember also
- that INS regulations state you must file an AR-11 form every time you
have an address change.

Other University Events

1.  The Division of Academic Enhancement invites you to an open house.
Help them celebrate 25 years of "Making Good Students Better", Thursday,
October 3, 2002, 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, Milledge Hall.

2.  "Feel free to ask?":  Dilemma for international students in class.
This program aims to discuss factors that may hinder international
students' participation in classroom activities.  Some examples
include:  communication  apprehension, classroom atmosphere, and pros
and cons in using a group discussion format.  Wednesday, October 9, Tate
Room 145, 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.  Free for students, faculty and staff.
Drop by and bring your lunch.  Sponsored by the  Counseling and
Psychological Services (CAPS) 542-2273.

3.  Learning to Drive?  Come to the Free Driving and Car Care Clinic,
Saturday, October 5,  9:00 AM - 12:00 PM, Milledge Avenue Baptist Church
Parking Lot.  Learn basic driving skills to prepare for the road test
and get some information on basic car care an maintenance.  Registration
required.  For registration and additional information contact Becky

Fellowship of the Baptist Student Union.
