Scholarships for Study Abroad
Please note that the application deadlines for many study abroad
scholarships for spring (and in some cases for next summer and fall as
well) are approaching in October and November. Links to more information on
each scholarship and the programs offering the scholarships can be found on

General Scholarships (for use on any program with some restrictions)
Regents Scholarship - Deadline - November 1, 2002
Gillman Scholarship - Deadline - October 15, 2002 (for students on the Pell
Courts Scholarship - Deadline - November 7, 2002 (for Honors students only
- once a year deadline)
Program Specific Scholarships (for UGA students only attending program
API - Spring A Term - Deadline - October 1, 2002
American InterContinental University Winter Quarter - Deadline - October 15
Australian Education Connection - Deadline is 4 months before start of term
- October for February term
Center for Education Abroad at Arcadia University - Deadline - October 15
Institute for Study Abroad at Butler University - Deadline - October 1 (for
all programs except Argentina and Chile, which have a Nov. 15 deadline)
International Studies Abroad (ISA) - Deadline for Winter Programs - October 1
UGA Cortona Program - Deadline - November 1
NSEP Boren Scholarships
The Institute of International Education is pleased to announce the opening
of the application cycle for the 2003-2004 National Security Education
Program (NSEP) David L. Boren Undergraduate Scholarships for study abroad.
NSEP Boren Scholarships are available to degree-seeking undergraduates
planning to study abroad in summer 2003, fall 2003, and/or spring 2004.
Emphasized world regions include Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe,
the NIS, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Middle East. Information
and an online application are available on the NSEP Web
site: <http://www.iie.org/nsep>. The application deadline is February 14,
2003. All UGA students must work through the OIE and the local committee at

Marketing Your International Experience
Thursday, October 10th from 3:30-5:30 pm in 215B Barrow Hall
An exercise for students to realize the marketable skills they have
developed while abroad and help them to put those skills on their resume.

Learn about the benefits of studying abroad on longer programs.
AIFS Announces Train Ticket Bonuses for Students on London and Florence
Spring Programs 2003
Students applying to the AIFS at Richmond University in London by November
1st will receive a free, round trip ticket to Paris on the Eurostar train.
All students who enroll in the AIFS Richmond in Florence program during the
spring semester of 2003 will receive a free youth pass for train travel
throughout France and Italy. The pass can be used any four days for
unlimited train travel within two months. Please see:

Announcements from International Student Life
Students, faculty and staff are invited to join ISL each Friday in the
Memorial Hall Ballroom for Campus Coffee Hour.
There will be free food, lemonade and coffee and a chance to meet
international students on campus.
If you have signed up for the Global Friends program during orientation but
have not yet been contacted, or if you are interested in becoming a member
of the Global Friends program (a peer/mentor program for new students that
creates a social bond between new students and returning students in the

Activities and events are already underway for this semester's Global
Friends. Check with Nicole for more details.

On the way back from classes, I always see these little kids play soccer at
an abandoned school in the fields. They always talk to me, and it is really
interesting to get a very young Russian perspective on life. It is very
interesting to see how they think and what they know of America.
