Applications to nominate two of your agriculture students for the
Governor's Honors Program should be due very soon to your local GHP contact
recently had some questions about the application and this information
Only current 10th and 11th graders can submit applications. Two
applications per high school can be submitted. All individuals submitting
applications will need to be available on Saturday, February 8 to attend
the interviews at Clayton State College near Atlanta. In most cases,
students are brought by parents to the interviews. Teachers must get the
current application from their school or system's local GHP person - in
most cases, the high school counselor. The deadline varies from system to
system. You will need to check with your local GHP person to see when the
deadline is for you. All applications should be turned into your school,
not sent to us.
Summary of criteria for an Agriscience student:
Have taken or currently enrolled in an ag. class.
Have an overall GPA of 3.0 and an A in ag. classes and science classes (B
in AP science).
Indicate an interest in Agriscience and be able to work in an unsupervised
Student be available from mid-June through the end of July to attend the
6-week GHP in Valdosta.
Summary of the application:
Teacher completes several questions on the application.
Student completes several questions on the application.
Student attaches a summary of a current or proposed Agriscience research
project ( 300 to 500 words - less than one page).
Student submits a resume describing activities.
Student attaches a portfolio not to exceed 10 pages that documents the
student's activities in FFA and other work or leadership organizations.
This could include newspaper clippings, photos of the student with their
SAE and awards. They may include documentation of leadership skills in
other organization like 4-H. However, the main focus should be their
involvement and leadership in FFA and Agriscience related activities.
