Scholarships for Study Abroad
Applications are now being accepted for the following scholarships and
grants through the Rotary Foundation. Application must be made to your
local Rotary Club (here in Athens or your permanent home). Please verify
with your local club that they are offering the scholarship before applying.
* 2004-05 Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships - This program
provides Academic-year, Multi-year, and Cultural scholarships to study
abroad. Recipients are expected to be outstanding ambassadors of goodwill
to the people of their host country through appearances before Rotary clubs
and districts, civic organizations and other forums. After study is
completed, scholars share their experiences with the people of their home
countries and with the local Rotarians who sponsored their scholarships.
* 2004-06 Rotary World Peace Scholarships - This program offers annually 70
Rotary World Peace Scholarships for two-year master's degree or certificate
programs in international relations, peace studies and conflict resolution
at one of seven Rotary Centers for International Studies located at
prestigious universities around the globe.

UGA Exchange in Brazil/$3000 Living Stipend
The Brazil-US Consortium in Agroecology is seeking students with Portuguese
language skills (at least 1 academic year of
coursework) to participate in a student exchange between the University of
Georgia and our partners in Brazil: Universidade Federal Rural de
Pernambuco, and Universidade Federal do Pará. Students who speak Spanish
and are willing to learn Portuguese are also welcome.
If you are selected to participate, we have a grant from the U.S.
Department of Education's FIPSE (Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary
Education) that will allow us to pay you a stipend of up to $3000 for your
living expenses. With the assistance of your advisor and the Office of
International Education, we can also help to ensure that you will earn
credit from UGA for the courses you take in Brazil.
Our consortium is focused on the economic, agricultural and environmental
viability and sustainability of northeastern
Brazil. Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco is located in the coastal
town of Recife, while Universidade Federal do Pará is in Belém, at the
Amazon frontier. Both of these institutions offer courses in the social,
physical, and life sciences, as well as in policy, history, and culture.

International Student Advisor

The Office of International Education (OIE) serves 3,000 F-1 and J-1 visa
holders and 600 study abroad students.
Education: A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
Experience: At least two years job related experience required. Strong
oral and written communication skills required. Prefer experience in a
university environment, advising international students on F-1 and J-1
visas, and knowledge of non-immigrant regulations that apply to this
population. Experience with cross-cultural programming desirable.
Computer experience including Microsoft Office and use of internet is
essential. Knowledge of Banner is preferred.
Responsibilities: Advise international students and visiting scholars on
non-immigrant regulations; assist in planning and conducting orientation
programs, workshops and other OIE sponsored events; support nationality
clubs and other student groups in cross-cultural programming; serve as a
Designated School Official and Alternate Responsible Officer; assist
international students with cross-cultural adjustment issues and coordinate
services with other departments.
Salary: Commensurate with experience
