Shorebird Folks,

See the attachment for information on the Shorebird Science meeting planned for February 2006. Additional information will be posted on the U.S. Shorebird Conservation Plan website at http://www.fws.gov/shorebirdplan/<http://www.fws.gov/shorebirdplan/> .

Shorebird Science in Western Hemisphere

27 February - 2 March 2006

University of Colorado, Boulder

The first Western Hemisphere Shorebird Group meeting will be held at the University of Colorado campus in Boulder, Colorado, between 27 February and 2 March 2006. The purpose of the meeting is to: 1) bring together biologists studying breeding, staging and wintering shorebirds throughout the Western Hemisphere in one location, 2) promote information sharing on methodologies and study design among biologists working on different shorebird species, 3) to promote range-wide studies of shorebirds by fostering collaborations among biologists interested in particular species, 4) integrate science into the implementation of various shorebird conservation plans, and 5) to generate enthusiasm among the shorebird community to conduct additional studies of shorebirds in the future.

Inexpensive housing ($19 per night) is available for students, and we are encouraging students to attend. Boulder is readily accessible from Denver International Airport. Details of the meeting, including logistics, call for abstracts, science program, and international travel, will be posted on the US Shorebird Conservation Plan website (http://www.fws.gov/shorebirdplan/). Please mark your calendars now and plan on attending. Overall coordinator for the meeting is Rick Lanctot ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> , telephone: 907-786-3609), and Brad Andres is coordinating the Boulder logistics ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> , 303-275-2324).
