We had a great response to the call for Peer Advisors in our office.
Students love to hear about international study and adventure from
fellow students, and we enjoy working with returnees. Thanks again for
answering the call! Training will start next week.

2. American Conversation Partners
*****
Please contact Molly Moran ([log in to unmask]) if you would like to be a
conversation partner for an international student. Dr. Moran is looking
for UGA students who are interested in spending time, perhaps over
coffee, to help students in her ESL class practice English. This is a
great way to meet and help students who are new to Athens!

3. GILMAN STUDY ABROAD SCHOLARSHIP (for Pell Grant Recipients):

--Application Deadline: September 20, 2005
--Award up to $5000. Award amounts will vary depending on program length
and student need.
--Eligibility: Candidates must be U.S. citizens and undergraduates who
are receiving federal Pell Grant funding at 2-year or 4-year colleges
and universities and are planning to study abroad this Spring 2006.
Gilman recipients are chosen by a competitive selection process and
require students to develop a follow-up service project at home
campus/community after the study abroad program.

THE FREEMAN-ASIA AWARD SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM:
This scholarship is designed to support American undergraduates with
demonstrated financial need who are planning on studying overseas in
East or Southeast Asia. Freeman-ASIA Award Program grantees are expected
to share their experiences with their home campuses to encourage study
abroad in Asia by others, and to spread greater understanding of Asian
peoples and cultures within their home communities. Since the launch of
the program in 2000, the Freeman-ASIA Award Program has supported over
2,000 U.S. undergraduates with their study abroad plans in East and
Southeast Asia.
--Eligibility: Spring Scholarships available for students who will study
abroad for 10 weeks or more in Asia with a start date next December - April.
--Application Deadline: Application cycle opens September 7, 2005 for
Spring Programs Endorsed application and signed Financial Need
Validation Form must be received by Institute of International Education
by 5:00 PM EST October 21, 2005.

All you Journalism majors, listen up! Spring 2006 is the last semester
that a scholarship will be offered for this exchange program. Study
Journalism and other subjects at Humber College (Toronto,
Canada--dynamic city,) Mount Royal College (Calgary, Canada-gorgeous
Canadian Rockies,) or the University of Colima (Colima, Mexico--great
university town.)

5. STUDY, WORK AND TRAVEL ABROAD FAIR -- OCTOBER 4, 2005

Are you on the fence about studying abroad this summer? Come to the
FAIR and get some encouragement!
Mark your calendars now for the 21st Annual UGA Study, Work and Travel
Abroad Fair, which will take place Tuesday, October 4, 2005 in the
Georgia Hall of the Tate Student Center. 10 am - 3 pm
Meet UGA program directors, coordinators of external programs,
representatives from University System of Georgia programs! A great
time to gather LOTS of information. Study Abroad Advisors will be on
hand to answer questions!

Hey Everybody! Remember that our Library is open from 8 am - 5 pm
Monday - Friday. The library has information on studying, working,
volunteering overseas. Check it out!
Barrow Hall is conveniently located behind Conner Hall and across from
the Boyd Graduate Library on DW Brooks Drive.
